The “tale” begins with a 200 year old log cabin confiscated from a British sympathizer following the Revolutionary War. In 1820 widower Priest, the Rev. William Duke, and his daughter, bought the cabin, moved in, and established a school and spent the next 20 years living in the 4-room structure until Duke’s death in 1840. What happened to the cabin and who was Rev. Duke? Eric Mease, Historical Society of Cecil County trustee, will review the history of the cabin and Rev. Duke and explore common myths about both.
