A native of Cecil County, Geraldine McKeown grew up on the family farm surrounded by land that has been in her family for 7 generations. The beauty of the country landscape and the old farm buildings, rich with character, had a strong influence on her. An artist since childhood, her paintings reflect a deep sense of this heritage and her love of the rural architecture and landscape.
Geraldine studied art at Towson University, the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia and with several of the most prominent contemporary artists working today. She has held art classes in her studio for over 30 years.
An accomplished artist working in watercolor and oil in the style of traditional realism, her paintings reveal an emphasis on design and composition and the interplay of light and shadow. She has been the recipient of numerous regional and national awards and has achieved signature membership in the Baltimore (BWS), Philadelphia (PWCS), Pennsylvania (PWS) and National (NWS) Watercolor Societies. A highlight of her career was to paint and present a watercolor to Oprah Winfrey.
For Geraldine art has become a way of life and a perpetual journey. Each day presents new ideas and challenges. She paints in the studio and outdoors “en plein air” and recently has begun painting portraits and figurative subjects.
